This weekend, get ready for the ultimate spring celebration, where you'll get to combine two of your favourite things: fitness and wine. Even if you're not exactly a fitness guru, the Half Corked Marathon Weekend is certainly an activity that's sure to entertain.

Guests staying at nearby Osoyoos hotels can get together May 24 to sample the region's finest wines, take a look at the beautiful vineyards in the Okanagan Valley and duke it out to win the big race. However, being the winner doesn't seem to be the top priority, as everyone gets a custom prize bag and the chance to enjoy a picnic at the finish line.

In true race fashion, the weekend will also entail a pre-race pasta dinner for all attendees, which will include rustic Italian dishes paired with the Okanagan wine country's favourite libations. You'll get to mingle with other visitors to Osoyoos and even possibly meet suite mates who are staying at the Walnut Beach Resort as well!

Also not to be missed is the finish line lunch, whether you're partaking in the race or just watching as a bystander. The picnic-style event is hosted by doLci Deli in Osoyoos, and will offer homemade bread, fresh deli fare and home-cooked desserts as a reward for finishing the race.

No matter where you're from, there's always an opportunity to learn more about your region's history and heritage. Whether you're born and raised in the Columbia or Okanagan Valley, you have plenty to learn about the place you came from, and fortunately, Osoyoos hosts its very own Aboriginal Day to celebrate the native culture. If you visit the Walnut Beach Resort June 21, you'll get to take a trip to the NK'MIP Desert Cultural Centre and see how the customs and tradition of Aboriginal people have sustained over thousands of years.

Archeological evidence has proven that natives had made a good living in the Okanagan Valley area by using the land and water resources to trade with neighbours. To this day, hundreds of Aboriginal people live on the Osoyoos Indian Reserve, a stretch of land 12,950 hectares big and full of life.

Each year, these members as well as guests at nearby Osoyoos hotels like the Walnut Beach gather to celebrate the culture and participate in rituals like making traditional food, dancing and drumming and ultimately honouring the long-lived history of the people.

Do you feel the need to get away? You're not alone. Many people across Canada are starting to get that familiar ache of wanderlust, and it's causing some to rush and try to figure out their summer plans. If you're not sure what to do about your upcoming vacation, consider booking jaunts to an Osoyoos hotel like the Walnut Beach Resort for the ultimate Okanagan experience.

Victoria Day kicks off summer for many Canadians, and it also starts the season when most start travelling. Savvy globetrotters who want to stretch their vacations often use long weekends for their travel dates – in fact, more than half almost always try to plan trips around a holiday weekend. Already, 66 per cent of people are set to do just that this summer, with more travellers finalizing their plans in the coming weeks.

"Canadians deserve to make the most of the summer and their long weekends after enduring another winter, and we agree with the 64 per cent of respondents who said that long weekends offer a good opportunity to take a short holiday," said Expedia Canada's vice president Sean Shannon.

You can check out what weekends you're free and start booking rooms for a spectacular summer holiday.

Travellers who book stays to the Walnut Beach Resort usually look forward to letting loose. The deluxe hotel offers some spectacular views of the surrounding Osoyoos area, and you may even be so tempted by these picturesque surroundings that you want to venture out and see the area for yourself.

If that's the case, try to visit around July 19 or Aug. 16, as you could be in for quite a treat when you hit the town. This is the 27th year the annual street dances are scheduled to take over the town, so you can walk just steps from your Osoyoos hotel and take part in this festive and unique celebration of the community. Hundreds of people participate, and the family friendly event is one that all locals and travellers can appreciate.

This year will be the first that the Osoyoos Senior Centre Association will sponsor of the event, so there may even be some new twists on the horizon. If nothing else, you'll be able to enjoy a bit of dancing, entertainment and barbecue food during your trip to the Okanagan Valley.

With spring in full force and Mother's Day just days away, a great way to celebrate both events is with a trip to one of the Okanagan Valley's most beautiful public gardens. You can treat your special mom to not one bouquet, but a whole field of flowers by planning a picnic to this colorful garden, and even pick up some plants of your own at the weekend Plant Sale.

Situated off Highway 97 in Summerland, the garden is not a far jaunt from the luxurious Walnut Beach Resort, so you could even plan a memorable weekend in the scenic Okanagan Valley. After enjoying a celebratory brunch at your resort, you can head to the spring fundraiser and pick up your own supply of vegetables, herbs and annual blooms.

One of the region's most beloved catering companies, Joy Road Catering, will provide refreshments for the event, serving up local, fresh cuisine from the British Columbia region.

If you have any time left over, be sure to explore any of the beautiful vineyards that make up the Okanagan Valley landscape. By the time the weekend's over, your mom will be amazed by your thoughtful Mother's Day planning.
