Do you like obstacle courses and outdoor adventures? Maybe you're just interested in learning about the daily activities of a farmer? Then start planning a trip to Osoyoos for this September to check out the Freak'n Farmer, a one-day event that tests your endurance and skills on the farm. Sponsored in part by the Walnut Beach Resort, this event takes place at Covert Farms in late September.
The Freak'n Farmer is a family-friendly event, but it's also the perfect occasion for an adult getaway to Okanagan. The whole thing centres around the Adventure Obstacle Race, which includes two courses: a 5-kilometre course made up of 10 obstacles and a 12-kilometre course made up of 18 obstacles. Expect to get muddy, because you'll need to complete an array of hands-on farm chores to take home a prize.
Compete solo or play in a team of up to four people. Or, if you're more of a spectator, feel free to skip the competitions altogether. Just kick back and watch the games as you sample some of the local organic foods and regional wines. If you do bring the kids along, they can let out all that extra energy by taking part in the Freak'n Little Farmer race. Afterward, head back to your comfortable room at the Walnut Beach Resort, bask in the luxurious accommodations and take in the stunning lakeside views.
