There are few things as heartwarming as celebrating the autumn harvest with an evening of food, friends and fun. Get into the spirit of the season on Oct. 10 when the Covert Farms Family Estate, which is located in Oliver, hosts the Final Harvest Dinner. Guests who stay at the luxurious Walnut Beach Resort can enjoy excellent service and accommodations as well as a convenient location near the farm.
This year's Final Harvest Dinner will feature the culinary artistry of farm chef Derek Uhlemann. He will cook up a multi-course dinner using some of the more than 60 different crops grown right on the Covert grounds. Each course will come individually paired with a vino produced at the location. For the reception, you'll enjoy sauteed padron peppers and other delights coupled with the ODIE sparkling wine. The dinner will feature gourmet entrees like a wine-braised ham with mustard greens and an autumnal root vegetable served with a glass of 2009 Amicitia Red by Covert Farms.
During the event, guests can listen to farmer and winemaker Gene Covert as he discusses his passion for growing organic vines as well as the 60 different crops, the unique terroir of the South Okanagan region and the difficulties of farming in the desert sagebrush of Oliver.
