Care for a little classic gospel this winter? With a trip to the Walnut Beach Resort in January, travellers can catch a riveting performance by The Sojourners, a Vancouver-based trio who are also avid members of the famous Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir. The show is part of the 2012-2013 Osoyoos Concert Series and is sure to bring spirited music lovers to their feet in the OSS Mini Theatre January 31.
Each member of the group – Jim Byrnes, Will Sanders and Ron Small – has been a player in the music industry for nearly five decades and continues to have the same commitment to the blues since year one. Black Hen Music, the artists' label, describes their sound as "praise music with their own special 'stank,'" and those who head to the show in Osoyoos will know exactly what that means when they hear it for themselves.
The group also performs powerful covers of famous tunes like Gary Davis' "Death Don't Have No Mercy" and Los Lobos' "Peace in the Neighbourhood," often calling upon major issues like civil rights and social justice, of which each artist has come across in his own life.
