There's no shortage of events focused on celebrating fine wine in the Okanagan Valley, one of Canada's largest wine regions. But Osoyoos offers a unique experience in late-September's Festival of the Grape, combining live music, art, good eats and boutique shopping. While you're here, stay in one of the carefully crafted designer suites of the Walnut Beach Resort, with its spectacular views and deluxe accommodations.
Established in 1997 and held in the British Columbia Visitor Centre, this festival is organized by the South Okanagan Chamber of Commerce. It's proven to be a huge hit among locals and visitors and gets bigger by the year, with a growing number of wineries, vendors and attendees. Sample award-winning varietals from more than 50 wineries, such as the Burrowing Owl Estate Winery and Tinhorn Creek, and taste the flavours of specially crafted cheeses from local favourite Jerseyland Organics.
The festival also has a variety of special events. Take off your shoes and take part in the grape stomp, and if you're bringing the youngins along, let them play over at the Chateau De Kids venue. But adults may want to come without the children for this event – Festival of the Grape makes for a romantic weekend away, and a stay at the nearby Osoyoos hotel will make the experience even more enchanting.
